Vice Chairman of ICOMOS Mr. Guo Zhan Visited HIST

On May 31, 2013, Mr. Guo Zhan, Vice Chairman of both International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and ICOMOS CHINA, visited HIST and made a presentation on conservation of cultural world heritage and sustainable development. All the research fellows, staff and students of HIST, attended the lecture.

Mr. Guo Zhan, who is engaged in the study of cultural heritage conservation and management for many years, has devoted himself to the nomination and review of China’s world heritage projects in recent years. With rich theoretical knowledge and practical experience in cultural world heritage conservation, Guo talked about the procedures for world heritage nomination, international authoritative bodies in charge of world heritage, criteria for inscription on to world heritage list, current conservation status of world heritage conservation and challenges the world heritage sites are facing, etc. The audience were deeply impressed and strongly attracted by his presentation.
At last, Guo Zhan stressed that world heritage conservation needs different technical means and remote sensing should be introduced to enhance conservation and management of world heritage sites.
